Join us for HornFest 2012 on March 11, 2012 at the PepsiCo Recital Hall at TCU. This year’s event will feature Thomas Bacon, The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse and special appearances by members of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, DFW professional hornists and teachers, and YOU!

All horn participants may perform with the HornFest Mass Choir.

High School Horn Quartet Competition
Each quartet member must be currently enrolled in high school, registered for HornFest! and the competition, and no older than 18 years of age on March 11, 2012. You must bring the original score to the competition for the judges.
Repertoire for the High School Horn Quartet Competition is to be any “Class I” horn quartet work selected from the UIL/PML and can be purchased at Pender’s Music Co.
The winning quartet will receive gift certificates to Pender’s Music Co. and a spot in the master class with The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse at 1:35pm.
College Mock Excerpt Audition
To participate, you must be currently enrolled in a college or university, registered for HornFest! and the competition, and no older than 22 years of age on March 11, 2012.
Excerpts for the College Mock Excerpt Audition are:
- Beethoven, Symphony No. 7 – Horn 1, movement 1
- Brahms, Symphony No. 1 – Horn 1, movement 2
- Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 – Horn 1, movement 1 (low tutti)
- Strauss, Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks – Horn 1 (opening call)
- Excerpts are found in the Hornplayer’s Audition Handbook, compiled and edited by Arthur LaBar, and may be purchased from Pender’s Music Co.

The winner of the excerpt competition will win a gift certificate to Pender’s Music Co. and a spot in the Thomas Bacon master class.

- 11am – High School Horn Quartet Competition Choir Room
- 11am – College Mock Excerpt Audition Band Hall
- 12pm – Lunch on your own for competition participants
- 12:30pm – Check-in and registration for non-competing HornFest participants Walsh Performing Arts Center Lobby
- 1pm – Opening Recital featuring The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse PepsiCo Recital Hall
- 1:30pm – Masterclass with Four Hornsmen and the winner of the High School Horn Quartet Competition
PepsiCo Recital Hall - 2pm – EXHIBITS OPEN in Band Hall
- 2:15pm – impromptu performances, jam sessions, and sight-reading ensemble music in the Choir Room
- 3pm – Mass Horn Choir Rehearsal
PepsiCo Recital Hall - Those wishing to perform in the Mass Horn Choir at the 7pm concert must attend this rehearsal. Just bring your horn and mouthpiece. All ages welcome!
- 4pm – Pizza Party and more exhibit time, jam sessions, and sight-reading
Walsh Performing Arts Center Lobby - Refreshments will also be served (water and sodas)
- 4:45pm – Clinic with Yamaha artist Thomas Bacon: “Practice Smarter Not Harder” PepsiCo Recital Hall
- 5:55pm – Masterclass with Yamaha artist Thomas Bacon and the winner of the College Mock Excerpt Audition and other selected students
PepsiCo Recital Hall - 7pm – Finale HornFest! Concert featuring the TCU Horn Ensemble, Thomas Bacon, members of the FWSO horn section, local DFW professional hornists, and YOU in a special mass horn choir
